Study break for some completely unnecessary 2012 political speculation. Thank you, Daily Beast. Benjamin Sarlin looked at what the Republicans are offering (right now) for 2012 candidates and then evaluated each option. This goes back to what I was writing about Sarah Palin in my last post. It’s also interesting because it underscores the current state of the Republican Party and reinforces why I think Obama does not have much to worry about (right now).
For example, take this quote from the article:
“I think to beat Obama we’re going to have to have a much better field of candidates than are currently there,” Ryan Rhodes, a political consultant and chairman of the Iowa Tea Party Patriots, told The Daily Beast.
Not surprisingly the candidate I find most appealing (Gov. Tim Pawlenty) and the one I think would have the best chance against Obama “barely registers in the Republican consciousness,” according to the author. Yet, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich remain strongly in the conversation. Guh.
Lastly, the article looks at a few potential candidates who you might not expect or have heard of, so that’s kinda interesting too.
